The kind way to end a beloved pet’s suffering – At Home Euthanasia
Bowwout is a home euthanasia service for pets whose owners wish to have their dog or cat put to sleep by a kind, experienced veterinary surgeon in the familiar surroundings of home.
The vet, usually myself (Liz) arrives at your home, casually dressed and with no surgery smells! After being introduced to your pet I give him or her a sedative. We complete the necessary paperwork, and watch over your pet, often with a cuppa and chat, until the sedative takes full effect. He or she might be curled up in your arms, or lying comfortably in their own bed, as they gradually fall into a deep sleep and become unaware of their surroundings.
When your pet has reached this stage, they don’t feel any pain, and won’t notice the final injection. Once this has been given your pet usually will stop breathing within a minute or two. At this stage I slip out of the room for a while to give you time alone with him/her.
You can choose whether or not to be present at any stage of the procedure.
After your pet has passed away the safe and legal aftercare of the body is important. We’ll discuss the options at an earlier stage, but they are mainly burial or cremation.
Burial at home is often a favoured option; it is wise to check and comply with any bye-laws in your area first.
Cremation offers two options. In group cremation the body is cremated in a large chamber with other pets and the ashes not returned. In private cremation the pet is cremated in a single chamber, and the ashes returned to the owner.
At all times your pet’s body wil be treated with dignity and respect.
